Pinson is one of Alabama's oldest communities and was settled by Gen. Andrew Jackson's men in the early 1800s. The town was initially named Hagood's Crossroads, after a family of early settlers. However, the town was later renamed Mount Pinson after a town in Tennessee, and finally, Pinson when the first post office was established in 1837.
