Areas of Standing Water

Our service includes more than just applying products to reduce the mosquito population. Our knowledgeable Lawn Care Consultant will thoroughly inspect your property and address any areas of standing water. Mosquitoes only need about half an inch of water to breed, so we recommend homeowners eliminate areas of standing water, including:

  • Flowerpots and planters

  • Birdbaths

  • Baby pools

  • Dog water bowls

  • Grill covers

  • Tires

  • Playground equipment

  • Other areas or objects where water collects

A simple task like pouring out stagnant water from these items can drastically reduce the amount of standing water around the home and thereby, reduce the areas for mosquitoes to breed. For homeowners with larger bodies of water in their yards, like a pool or pond, regular treatment and proper filtration will keep these areas from becoming a breeding ground for mosquitoes.

Treatment Time

Before each treatment, our experienced Route Manager (technician) will inspect and identify all areas needing attention, noting areas to avoid, such as vegetable gardens. Our treatments include larvicides and adulticides to address both young and adult mosquitoes. We also treat the plant and tree foliage up to twelve (12) feet.

Although mosquitoes can live and reproduce all year, their peak breeding season is when the weather is warm, and water is accessible. Because mosquitoes need water to breed, increased rainfall and humidity during the summer months can make your lawn a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Our Mosquito Control Service includes monthly treatments from March through October. And if mosquitoes return between treatments, we'll return to retreat at no additional cost.

If you want to enjoy your landscape without the annoyance of pesky mosquitoes, trust Turf Masters for your professional Mosquito Control Service. Mosquitoes will be one thing checked off your "honey-do list."

Mosquito Frequently Asked Questions

Will removing standing water eliminate mosquitos?

Simply removing standing water shouldn't be the only thing you do to keep mosquitoes away. It's best to combine regular maintenance, keeping trees, shrubs, and lawns, with preventative mosquito reduction treatments from Turf Masters. There are also things you can do as a homeowner to keep mosquitoes away.

What are things homeowners can do to keep mosquitoes away?

  • Check the screens on doors and windows. Even the smallest tear or hole in the screen can be a place for mosquitoes to enter the home.

  • Refill pet water dishes at least once per day. (twice is nice!)

  • Cut the grass at least once per week.

  • Use a weed-eater to cut down overgrown areas. (A well-kept yard is less hospitable to mosquitoes and other nuisance bugs like fleas and ticks.)

  • Pick up trash in the yard. A small soda bottle cap container can hold enough water to breed mosquitoes.

How can I protect myself from mosquitoes if I'm outside?

  • If you spend time outdoors, apply insect repellant containing at least 20% DEET, picaridin, or oil of lemon eucalyptus, and reapply as directed on the label.

  • If you plan to be outdoors for an extended time, consider wearing long pants, long-sleeved shirts, and closed-toe shoes to limit mosquito exposure.

Can certain plants repel mosquitoes?

A small garden filled with plants known to repel mosquitoes can also help reduce the mosquito population on your property. Some of these are herbs that can also be used to enhance your cooking or grilling endeavors and can also repel other pests like fleas.

  • Lemongrass
  • Lemon Blam
  • Marigolds
  • Peppermint
  • Geraniums
  • Catnip
  • Citronella
  • Garlic
  • Rosemary
  • Lavender
