Important Services For Bermuda & Zoysia Turfs
Here in the south, our year-round mild climate makes for an optimal growing environment for warm-season grasses such as Bermuda and Zoysia. Both grasses are fairly low maintenance and can successfully grow in our area. But professional lawn care services can enhance the health and beauty of your lawn.
Lawn fertilization and weed control, aeration and growth regulators are services that can help you achieve the lawn you've always dreamed of having.
Lawn Fertilization & Weed Control
Warm-season grasses best grow in temperatures above 75 degrees Fahrenheit and have the highest growth rates in the summer months.
Following a schedule for fertilization will help maintain a consistent level of nutrients so your lawn will be healthy throughout the growing season. The type of fertilizer and the timing of the application is also imperative for successful lawn care. For example, Bermuda is a high user of nitrogen, but misapplying heavy nitrogen fertilizer can "burn" or "streak" your lawn. We use commercial-grade spreaders calibrated to spread slow release nitrogen to prevent damaging your lawn and to constantly release nutrients between applications.
We have two seasons of weeds in the south, so year-round weed control is important.
Common Summer Weeds
Common Winter Weeds
- Poa annua
- Flowering henbit
- Bittercress
- Chickweed
Poa annua Flowering henbit
Crabgrass and Poa annua can be troublesome because they displace the Bermuda and Zoysia grass, stealing valuable nutrients from your lawn.
Our professional grass care service includes 4 applications of pre-emergent weed control to prevent weeds from establishing. Post-emergent herbicides are used to knockback existing weeds. Having a dense, healthy lawn is your best defense against weeds.
Core Aeration
Core aeration is a cultural practice that is often overlooked, but is beneficial in achieving the best Bermuda and Zoysia lawns possible. Aeration is the process of removing small plugs of soil from your lawn and is performed in the spring at the start of the growing season.
Core Aeration loosens the soil which allows water and nutrients to better reach the roots. Stolons—special surface roots that allow Bermuda and Zoysia to spread—are cut during the aeration process. This allows the stolons to multiply and your grass to spread faster.
Growth Regulators
Do you want to mow less and have thicker, greener grass? Growth Regulators are the answer. As mentioned above, Bermuda and Zoysia spreads and grows via stolons. Growth Regulators stunt the vertical growth of your grass and promotes lateral growth.
Benefits:
- Mow less often (go up to 3 weeks)
- Less watering
- Thicker turf
- Weed suppression
The weed control benefit of Growth Regulators is the thick turf they create can help prevent summer weeds that are not preventable with pre-emergent herbicides. With only 5 growth regulator treatments during the peak growing season, you can have a lawn your neighbors will envy.
